London, UK (28 April, 2025): Specialist global insurer Hiscox has today announced the appointment of Phil Withey as Chief Technology Officer for Hiscox London Market.

Phil spent the last 10 years at London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) where he held a number of senior technology positions including Head of Architecture for FTSE Russell, Shared Technology and Data and Analytics. Most recently he led the architecture function for the LSEG and Microsoft Partnership where he was responsible for the formation and delivery of a multi-billion dollar transformation programme with Microsoft. Prior to LSEG, Phil’s previous experience included roles with Barclays Capital and Threadneedle Investments.

Phil will join the business in June and be based in London. He will report jointly to Hiscox Group CIO Chris Loake and Hiscox London Market CEO Kate Markham and be part of the Hiscox London Market leadership team. He will be responsible for setting the London Market technology strategy, running and transforming the trading systems, as well as the continuing investment in data, digital, and AI.

Commenting on Phil’s appointment, Kate Markham says: “We continue to make significant progress in the digital transformation of our business, enhancing our underwriting and claims capabilities and helping us to deliver outstanding service to brokers and clients. Phil’s experience and expertise will be key to delivering on our ambitions, supporting our colleagues across the business as we look to make it easier for brokers and clients to trade with Hiscox.”

Phil adds: “I am delighted to be joining Hiscox at such an exciting time and to playing my part in realising its ambitious plans. Hiscox London Market has led the way with innovations such as its generative AI-enhanced lead underwriting model, so I’m really looking forward to building on the strong foundations already in place as we continue to explore how technology can transform the development of our products and the delivery of services.”
