Global insurer AIG’s Talbot Underwriting, an international insurer and reinsurer operating within the specialist Lloyd’s marketplace via Syndicates 1183 and 2019, has appointed Emma Woolley as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective March 2025.

Talbot has been part of AIG since 2018 when the carrier acquired Validus for $5.56 billion. The London headquartered re/insurer has offices in New York and Singapore, and writes a diversified portfolio, while Syndicate 2019 provides Lloyd’s investors with access to AIG’s Private Client Select portfolio.

In 2020, AIG announced the appointment of Chris Rash from StarStone Group as Talbot’s CEO, but it’s become apparent that experienced insurance and reinsurance professional, Woolley, has taken over as CEO of the company.

“I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Chief Executive Officer at Talbot Underwriting,” said Woolley.

Prior to her new role, Woolley served as Global Head of Marine at AIG for more than two years, having joined the firm in October 2022 after four years with Bermuda-based Lancashire Insurance Group as CEO of Lancashire Syndicates Limited.

Earlier in her career, Woolley spent more than two years with Cathedral Underwriting as Compliance Director, which followed more than nine years with Canopius Group, initially as Head of Underwriting Controls and then Head of Compliance.

Woolley has also worked at reinsurance giant Swiss Re as a contract wordings specialist, and at insurance and reinsurance broker BMS Group as wordings manager / broker support.
